SENIORS

Important Notes:

  • Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.

  • Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.

  • Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >

  • Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

  • Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Needs:

A loving forever home with limited stairs, no e-fence

Looking for a loving family

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Eboni (aka Ebby) has a sweet, quiet personality. She loves playing with tennis balls, either with someone else or by herself. She enjoys casual strolls around the neighborhood and is great on leash. She has a little weakness in her backend so her walks are at a slow pace, but she enjoys going outside. She has excellent house manners and does not need a crate. She doesn’t get on the furniture and rides well in the car. Foster Mom is home with her during the day, but when Eboni is left alone for short periods of time she is always good. Eboni had a lot of fun playing with a neighborhood pup and would probably enjoy living with another dog. She has little to no interest in food. She leaves treats laying on the floor or on her bed for hours. But, she will always check out what you are eating, and never turns down a tortilla chip! Eboni can be a little unsure around new people. When house guests visited for the weekend, she warmed up after 30 minutes—-very good progress. She’s never clingy or attention-seeking. She is just a lovely girl and a mellow companion. Eboni would do best in a mature household with quieter noises and not a lot of commotion. Loud and sudden noises tend to startle her. She went on a walk in the evening (dark outside) and encountered a lot of bikes and scooters. She preferred to walk on the street to avoid them on the sidewalk. Foster Mom let Eboni sniff and approach the bikes/scooters slowly to check things out. Eboni sniffed them and seemed to be better. There were kids out on her walk, too, and she tends to avoid them as well (especially if they are riding a bike). She had her first Frosty Paw and she loved every minute of it!

Glenda and Ruthie

Gender:

Female/Female Bonded Pair

Age:

9 years/7 years

Good with:

Kids 10+, Dogs

Needs:

A loving forever home

Two loves, one heart!

Thanks to the big hearts of some of our members who want to see every Lab (especially seniors) home as soon as possible the combined Adoption Fee for Glenda and Ruthie is reduced to $275

Ruthie is the yellow beauty with a soft white coat and a smile that will melt you (age 7) and Glenda is her beautiful chocolate mom with sprinkles of sugar on her nose and toes (age 9). This mother-daughter pair must be adopted together as they leave their breeding life behind and enjoy some time together without the kids! This duo enjoys snuggling, swimming, and retrieving. Because they have been kept in kennels most of their lives with only an occasional opportunity for exercise and playtime, they will be learning all about indoor living (heaven), leash walking (wow), and basic obedience (sure thing!), but we know from experience that these breeder sweeties are so willing to please. And they love being loved. These happy girls whose tails never stop wagging are a joy to have in the house. They follow their fosters everywhere, and their favorite place is on their peoples' laps.  Glenda and Ruthie will be a gift to any family willing to provide them with the exercise, attention, and love they deserve.

Amazing Jacinta!

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN
TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Meet Jacinta! Jacinta has some great traits...She is amazing! She is a gold medal sleeper! When it's time for bed she goes quietly and sleeps through the night.  She doesn't get on any furniture and is completely housebroken. She doesn't need to be crated and has been left on her own in her foster home and nothing is out of place. She loves her daily walks; is easy on leash and is content with a few reasonable length walks per day. She takes treats very gently. Jacinta's ideal family would include a home on the quieter side with people who are home more than not. She's working through some skin issues but is a champion taking her medicated baths, meds and eye drops. Do you have room in your heart and home for Jacinta?

Lovely Libby

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO ALL SENIORS HOME IN TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, SENIOR ADOPTION FEES ARE HALVED TO $125!

Libby is a gentle, easy-going girl. She is not a big dog, but she has really big Lab feet! Libby has impaired vision but it does not affect her happiness. She can see shapes and navigates her way around the house and yard easily if given a little extra time to learn the landscape. She also has some hearing loss and can't hear you tell her to “sit” or “come.” But somehow she can hear the refrigerator door open and if she hears a food wrapper, she springs to her feet (hmm, selective hearing?). And, she loves veggies--including lettuce! Libby loves to be outdoors. She enjoys two short walks a day, wagging her tail as she goes. She doesn’t play with toys but has a pair of wool socks that she carries around the house. Libby has a sweet disposition and is loved by her entire foster family.

We Love Lucy!

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN
TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Lucy is the sweetest girl who just wants love, attention, and a comfortable bed. Her family will need to be ok with the aging process and all that comes with it. She loves to nap and will often be sleeping near one of the resident dogs in her foster home. She does have arthritis and some "aging" issues, so would like a home with few stairs. She enjoys walking around the yard, sometimes out the gate, but often needs encouragement to get back up the porch and into the house. But she can get a teeny hustle on once the post-walk treats come out! Sweet, loving Lucy continues to look for a loving family with few or no stairs and a yard for her to lay in and watch the world go by.

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED- TO $125!!!

Maddie is a sweet girl that will just steal your heart, and your treats if you let her. She loves attention and will absolutely melt into you when you pet her. She sleeps through the night and wants her own bed which she loves, loves, loves! She is a great, laid back sorta girl that likes to hang out and go at her own pace. Maddie isn't the dog to take hiking ...she walks with her FM to the barn and back and then lays down. She's fostered in the country so FM opens the door and the dogs go into the yard...not Maddie....she demands to have a leash on before she will exit the doorway. What a smart girl!!  She met other dogs at the shelter with a wagging tail and happy body language. What's not to love about this easy going girl!

Handsome gent!

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Handsome Rudolph is an incredibly sweet and easy, laid-back gentleman. He loves hanging with the resident dog, loves his toys, loves zoomies around the yard and going on walks. He is very active and lively, but also has turned into a home body. His favorite places are foster's sofa and his bed, where he turns his blanket upside down every morning looking for monsters or forgotten treats. Rudolph needs a kind and patient person who will allow him his space for a few days, but they will be rewarded with a lovely and loving companion. He responds very well to food and treats. He very rarely barks, even when critters come right up to the fence. Although a senior pup he has a lot of life left in him.  And if that life can be spent with a dog friend, in a comfortable home, building relationships, and making memories; that is what Rudolph would like to do!

Shiloh

Gender:

Female

Age:

12 years

Good with:

Kids 7+, Dogs

Needs:

A loving forever home with few stairs

Sweet Senior

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125.

Shiloh is a gentle, affectionate, and petite yellow (almost white) Lab with big gorgeous eyes who really appreciates human companionship. She enjoys short walks and is generally good on a leash, though if she sees a rabbit or deer or groundhog, she freezes for a moment then is off for the chase. Shiloh met her foster sibling (also a senior Lab) and they became instant friends. She has been thrilled to meet people, too, wagging all over and generally soaking up attention. What Shiloh really would love is a home without a lot of steps and with one or more humans who are generally at home. In return she will give her whole generous heart.
