SENIORS

Important Notes:

  • Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.

  • Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.

  • Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >

  • Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

  • Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Amazing Jacinta!

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN
TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Happy belated 4th from this easygoing girl, Jacinta! This sweet senior has some great traits and is overall an amazing dog! To start, she is a gold medal sleeper! When it's time for bed she goes quietly and sleeps through the night, and she won't wake you up for breakfast in the morning. She doesn't get on any furniture and is completely housebroken. She doesn't need to be crated and has been left on her own in her foster home and nothing is out of place. She loves her daily walks, is easy on leash, and is content with a few reasonable length walks per day. She takes treats very gently. She's very neat and not prone to activities such as swimming that would lead to salt and what not being tracked through the house. She's gotten along with all two- and four-legged beings that have crossed her path. And all she asks for is couple soft doggie beds and air conditioning, as she's not a fan of the heat (who is, with this humidity!) Jacinta's ideal family would include a home on the quieter side with people who are home more than not. She's working through some skin issues but is a champion taking her medicated baths, meds, and eye drops. Do you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl? If so, ask your Adoption Coordinator for further information about Jacinta! You'll be glad you did.

Looking for a co-pilot?

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125

Jack is one of the easiest going and friendliest pups you'll ever meet. He is a laid-back dog who likes to be with his people to get attention and keep them company. He likes to play and retrieve toys. His favorite so far is a duck that quacks. He has great manners and knows his commands. He takes treats nicely (even carrots!) and gives you a paw to shake as a reward. Jack came from Jacksonville, NC, to Newport News via Pilots N Paws. The pilot said he was a great passenger, and didn't even try to get in the front seat to help him fly! Okay, so maybe he wouldn't make the best co-pilot... but he will make a wonderful loving companion nonetheless! When he retrieves, he will bring back whatever you throw, but after a while all he wants to do is come sit with you. This loving gentleman would like a family that will give him the love, attention, and care he deserves.

Lovely Libby

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO ALL SENIORS HOME IN TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, SENIOR ADOPTION FEES ARE HALVED TO $125!

Libby is a gentle, easy-going girl. She is not a big dog, but she has really big Lab feet! Libby has impaired vision but it does not affect her happiness. She can see shapes and navigates her way around the house and yard easily if given a little extra time to learn the landscape. She also has some hearing loss and can't hear you tell her to “sit” or “come.” But somehow she can hear the refrigerator door open and if she hears a food wrapper, she springs to her feet (hmm, selective hearing?). And, she loves veggies--including lettuce! Libby loves to be outdoors. She enjoys two short walks a day, wagging her tail as she goes. She doesn’t play with toys but has a pair of wool socks that she carries around the house. Libby has a sweet disposition and is loved by her entire foster family.

We Love Lucy!

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES IN
TIME FOR SUMMER FUN, THE SENIOR ADOPTION FEE IS HALVED TO $125!!!

Lucy is very much a go-with-the-flow kind of gal. You want to nap? Cool, she does, too You want a snack? Even better…she wants one, too. You want to gingerly walk down two steps and stand in the yard? She’ll do that. You want to rub a pup’s velvety soft ears? She loves that! You want to brush your hair in the sunshine out in the yard? That’s one of her favorite things to do! You want to go for walk? Um, she’ll pass on that and wait for you at home. Lucy is the sweetest most gentle senior angel. Some pups (usually the older ones) take a little longer than others to find their match, but Lucy is willing to wait. Until then, she’s loved and happy with her foster family. Give her a call!

Suzy Q

Gender:

Female

Age:

11 years

Good with:

Kids 10+, Dogs

Needs:

A loving forever home with limited steps

Oh Suzy Q, baby I love you, Suzy Q!

SUZY Q’S ADOPTION FEE IS REDUCED BY $125 AS A MEMORIAL FROM AN ADOPTER WHO RECENTLY LOST HIS SENIOR BUDDY.

Beautiful Suzy Q recently lost her home when her owner passed away, so this Golden Gal is looking for a loving family to heal her broken heart. She is an easy-going beauty, hoping for a nice, soft dog bed so she can take her morning, afternoon, and evening naps comfortably. She is curious about toys and tennis balls outside and is getting along well with the resident dogs at her foster home. Suzy Q is a little weak in her hips and would appreciate a home with minimal stairs and minimal slick surfaces (or throw rugs). Her strength has improved with weight gain and medication, but she does need a little lift getting up the three steps from outdoors to inside. She also would appreciate her people to be home more often than not. As an older lady, she needs regular potty breaks. If you'd like to give this lovely lady the loving, forever home she deserves, please call your Adoption Coordinator today.

Handsome senior

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125

Handsome Trip recently lost his home due to his owner's illness. He's sad because they used to play fetch, swim, and go hunting together. Trip lived in a small fenced enclosure when he wasn't playing with his human, so he is still getting used to the indoor life, including those tricky thing called steps. He is a very good boy who is smart and willing to learn. Trip loves water, including swimming and fetching bumpers and balls. He is good in the car and enjoys walks around the neighborhood and is working hard to perfect his leash manners. Enthusiastic Trip can get a little excited when meeting new people and may try to jump up on them -- but only so he can love on them properly of course. If you'd like a distinguished, lovable, water-loving gentleman in your life, come meet Trip today!
