SENIORS

Important Notes:

  • Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.

  • Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.

  • Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >

  • Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

  • Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Bizzy

Gender:

Female

Age:

10 years

Good with:

Kids 10+, Dogs

Needs:

A loving forever home

Beautiful Bizzy

Bizzy is a calm, affectionate yellow girl who really loves attention and going for walks. She has good house manners and is happy to meet new people. Most of all she likes getting a belly rub; she’ll run ahead of you so she can flop at your feet and present her tummy for attention. She recently had the chance to meet and spend time with two other Labs and it did not take long for her to join them in racing around the yard. Bizzy is happy to lie quietly while you are working but will bring the ball to you for the occasional recreation break, and remind you with a quiet nudge of your elbow that she is still there. I suspect that she would enjoy a home with at least a moderate level of activity. She will sit on command and has a very delicate mouth when taking treats. Beautful Bizzy is waiting by the phone!

Sweet older fella

Handsome Blackie lost his home when his owner went into hospice care. We're sure this has been a very confusing time for this distinguished gentleman, but he has taken it all in stride! He is quite a sweet older fellow with plenty of love left to share with you. He is good with dogs, but unknown with cats. If you'd like to give this young-at-heart guy a loving home and a soft bed, please contact your Adoption Coordinator today.

Liam

Gender:

Male

Age:

10 years

Good with:

Kids 10+, Dogs

Needs:

A loving forever home

Gentleman through and through

Liam has been in his foster home for a week and has needed that time to start showing his personality. The first few days, he was very quiet, but a few days after that he found toys and his voice! He has wonderful house manners, likes going for walks, and loves the backyard. He does well alone in the house. Foster Mom has a camera in the home to watch Liam when she needs to leave and he does well alone in the home outside of a crate. He barks some when she initially leaves, but then he calms down and finds a nice place to sleep. He takes his medications in pill pockets like a champ and is tolerating his medicated baths. Foster Mom gives him peanut butter while he has to take his baths and that makes it much better for Liam. He sleeps through the night well and chooses different places each night (dog bed next to Foster Mom's bed, dog bed in living room, or couch.) Liam is doing great with the resident dogs. Liam goes on daily shorter walks, which suits him fine because he is a lower energy dog. He currently doesn't have many stairs to navigate, but they appear not to be a problem for him. He does tend to have situational barking such as if he's left alone, another dog is barking, or he wants to be fed, but he settles quickly, and it doesn't last long. Liam doesn't have any problems when he encounters people, cars, other dogs and strange noises. He loves to be loved on, but can do his own independent thing, too. He's a gentle and sweet dog. Everyone who has met him says he is well mannered and happy. He wags his tail constantly and adores human affection. This stately and elegant guy is dreaming of a home where he will be loved and cared for in his golden years. He is in good health and overcoming some skin infections that came from neglect, but he is healing nicely!

Ready to be the Queen

Princess #2 is a pretty chocolate lady with a frosted muzzle and a face that begs for belly rubs and affection. This gentle girl got replaced by a new baby in the house and now she is hoping to find a family who appreciates her laid back, loving personality. She would like to spend her golden years going for short walks, napping on a cozy dog bed, and just hanging out with her humans. Princess is polite in the house and knows some basic commands. She is hoping to find her happy ending in a home where she can relax and relish the love and affection from her family.

Sweet Lady Sadie

Sadie is a gentle senior who found herself lost in NC but soon was found and brought into Lab Rescue. And we are sure glad she's here. She is very sweet and quiet. She rode nicely during her first ride with us, resting her tired head on the headrest between the front seats. We don't know much about Sadie yet, but as she fills us in we will update her status. If you want to give a senior and warm and happy home please contact your Adoption Coordinator.

Trampus

Gender:

Male

Age:

11 years

Good with:

Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats

Needs:

A loving forever home

Southern Gentleman

Trampus is the ultimate Southern gentleman, a congenial senior addition to his foster’s dog and cat commune. He's a bit of a velcro dog, he must make sure his foster is doing everything right, following her from room to room -- even if he has just gotten hunkered down in his nest. He also loves pets, except he is a little headshy -- all other body parts are fair game, however. Trampus has pretty severe arthritis and will be on pain relievers and joint supplements for the rest of his golden years. His foster is looking for a veterinary acupuncturist in the area to see if that will bring him some relief. And he'd much prefer a home with fewer stairs. He would love a spot to live out the rest of his years, where someone doesn’t mind a creaky old dog with wonderful house manners. Will you open up your home to this sweet senior?
