Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.
-
Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.
-
Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >
-
Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Flounder
Gender:
Mal
Age:
4 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home
A perfect pup!
Flounder is a typical puppy, sweet and friendly, looking for a family who will give him the home he deserves, and is prepared to support him through his surgery recovery in a few months. He is a gentle, affectionate puppy who found himself in the shelter after being surrendered with his littermates. It didn’t take long for staff to notice something was off with his front right leg, and X‑rays revealed a break at the joint. Lab Rescue stepped in to give him the care he deserves. After consulting with a couple of orthopedic surgeons, the recommendation is to wait until Flounder is older and his growth plates have closed before performing corrective surgery. Until then, he’s cleared to enjoy life as a puppy — just without overdoing it. Flounder can romp around the yard and explore, but he shouldn’t be encouraged to fetch or roughhouse with other dogs. Despite his limitations, he’s thriving. He’s learning to settle outside of his crate, practicing his basic commands, and he already sits politely and takes treats with the gentlest little mouth. This boy’s spirit is as bright as his future. With a bit of patience and a lot of love, Flounder is well on his way to becoming someone’s perfect companion.

The River Puppies
Gender:
Male and female
Age:
8 weeks
Good with:
Kids 0+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home
Take me to the river!
The River puppies are from a shelter we work with in VA. The rescue pulled mom, Hazel, from the pound and had some suspicions that she might have been “in a family way.” But she really surprised them when she delivered a healthy and robust litter of TEN! What a wonderful surprise and what an excellent mother! They asked us if we could help find new homes for them. Of course, we said yes. The puppies have been vetted and received their first round of vaccines, preventatives, and microchips, and are ready to find their forever families. Please contact your Adoption Coordinator for full information and current availability.
Clockwise the River puppies are:
Shenandoah, female, black - adopted
Potomac, male, chocolate - adopted
York, male, black - adopted
Rappahannock, male, black - adopted
Roanoke, male, black - adopted
