Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.
-
Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >

Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Abbie
Gender:
Female
Age:
9 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with another male dog
All about Abbie!
Abbie is the sweetest girl! She plays very well with her foster brother, but also loves to be close to humans at all times. Abbie is a master snuggler, and "velcro" dog. She might be a senior, but she keeps up with her puppy foster brother. Abbie loves to fetch the ball. She listens well to the word "no," and all she wants is for her people to be happy, which makes setting boundaries easy! She is crate trained and goes happily into the crate to lay down while her foster family eats dinner. And a fun fact - Abbie chases her tail when she has the zoomies! She does prefer to have her humans home more than not, and benefits from the company of another male dog to let her know she's safe. Anyone seeking a senior girl would be lucky to have her!

Beau #2
Gender:
Male
Age:
10 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
A gentle and lively fellow!
THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125.
Beau is doing great at his foster home. He likes to be near his people while they are home but does fine being left alone in the kitchen when they are out. He is friendly with everyone he meets, including other dogs and cats. Beau has excellent house manners. He is house broken and does well when left alone confined to the kitchen with a baby gate. He will lay down in a crate to relax but doesn’t need to be crated. He is a playful boy but is on restricted activity as he completes his heartworm treatment. He can easily navigate stairs and enjoys fetch and walks. In sum, Beau has proven to be an ideal houseguest. At the young age of 10 he loves to fetch and chase and can't wait to get back to that ASAP. He exudes a calm demeanor both on leash and off. He is a good supervisor and will follow you around while you are doing house work or outside chores. His happy place is outside where he can observe the wildlife, play with his favorite toys and bask in the sun. Beau is a sweetie!

Birk
Gender:
Male
Age:
9 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with another dog
Beautiful Birk
Birk continues to do well in his foster home while he awaits for his forever family. He can be quite energetic, like any 9-month-old pup, but he settles well after he has had his exercise. He does well in the crate and can also be trusted outside of it. Birk loves wresting and playing hard with the other young dog in the house. They are both equally rough and tumble, so are a good match for each other. Birk will do best with another younger dog who wants to play in the same style. Foster mom reports he is very persistent in getting other dogs to play his games. He hasn't spent much time on leash, but is doing well all things considered. Like his siblings, he's learning so many things while waiting to meet his forever family. He's a sweet, friendly, curious love bug!

Blue #2
Gender:
Male
Age:
5 months
Good with:
Kids 6+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
Little boy Blue!
Blue and his littermates were surrendered to the shelter when their owners couldn't find homes for them. Little Blue is ready for some summer fun. He is sweet, friendly, and ready to play. He had a wonderful outing from the kennel with a volunteer, and got to show off his cute puppy wiggles, give lots of kisses, and make a new friend! Our volunteer reports that while Blue was initially unsure about this whole 'walking on a leash' thing, he adapted so quickly and really enjoyed the time to explore and sniff. He definitely has the curiosity of a puppy, enjoying the blowing leaves and wagging his tail for anyone walking by. Blue gives his trust and affection easily. He also did very well on the short car ride, settling down nicely for a rest. He is still just a little guy, and easy to handle, though he does jump on you in his happiness. He seems receptive to training, as he enjoyed being rewarded with treats for listening. He has a gentle mouth. Blue can't wait for a family to call his own. Bobby
Gender:
Male
Age:
6 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home. Fence negotiable.
Big Beautiful Boy!
Bobby is a stunning young yellow boy. He’s an extra-large boy with a gentle heart and a big brain to match. Although Bobby is strong, he’s also incredibly smart and eager to learn – especially when the reward is tasty treats and your praise. He walks nicely on leash with a no-pull harness. Bobby is fully crate-trained, house-trained, and enjoys quiet time in the backyard, lounging in the sun or sniffing around. He’s generally a calm and quiet companion, while also having a playful side - he's learned to relax and let his true self shine! One especially sweet note from his trial home: when Bobby had his people all to himself, he quickly shows just how much he loves close companionship and becomes a true “Velcro dog,” happily bonding and sticking close to his humans. Bobby is a loving, affectionate boy who will thrive in a calm, pet-free home with people who are comfortable with a large dog and appreciate a loyal companion who likes to stay close. He’s ready for the right match to come along and see just how special he is.

Bridgette

Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
A total lovebug
Sweet Bridgette was a stray to the shelter, where she was not claimed - to our surprise. She is a sweet, gentle girl who loves people and dogs alike. Whether in the car or on a leash, she is a champ who is always down for adventure. At the kennel, she has excellent manners, and her transporters said she is a love. More on Bridgette soon, but don't wait to ask your Adoption Coordinator about this sweet girl!

Casey and Nathan
Gender:
Male/Male bonded pair
Age:
1 year 2 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a 6 ft fence
Bonded Bros
Casey and Nathan are bonded brothers who must be adopted together. Casey is moderately more social than Nathan and has more natural curiosity and willingness to interact. Their progress continues to be steady but gradual, which is very typical for dogs who come in fearful and under-socialized. While they are still quite hesitant about direct human interaction, they have made some meaningful gains in trust. Both dogs will now approach for food and will take treats. Though not yet comfortable with petting or handling, when outside they often choose to stay nearby, hovering at a distance, which shows their curiosity and desire to be near people, even while they’re still working through some fear. They are making some progress walking on leash, but at this stage they would not thrive in a home that relies heavily on leash walking for exercise. They are much more comfortable in secure, familiar environments. Day-to-day management with them has become easy, and both boys really enjoy enrichment activities. They are very funny and endearing together, still very much in that silly adolescent stage. They play well, get into harmless mischief together, and clearly take comfort in one another’s company. Though good with other dogs, they remain strongly bonded and rarely choose to be far apart. With patience and love, these brothers have made a lot of progress since coming to Lab Rescue, and their future looks so bright, they’re going to need shades!

Casper
Gender:
Male
Age:
3 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
The friendly type
Casper is a sweet, sometimes silly, very good boy. When he came to Lab Rescue he was missing most of his fur due to severe allergies. After treating him, he regained his beautiful fur, and his true identity became clear: he's a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix! Now that he’s healthy and fluffy again, we know that Casper is very much a working dog who loves being outside and thriving when he has a job that suits his instincts and personality, like livestock guarding. True to his nature, Casper believes in keeping an eye on things. He’s not excessively noisy, but he does patrol the fence line and will alert bark at passing threats like squirrels, plastic bags, or neighbors living their lives. He’ll quiet when asked and is happy to come inside when his job is done. A large securely fenced yard is non-negotiable; he’s got strong instincts to roam and protect, and he needs space to do both safely. He’s crate trained & house trained. Casper is calm, stoic, and devoted; extremely gentle with people. He's independent, though affectionate with his family. He walks nicely on leash, enjoys park outings, and gets along with other dogs, but is mostly indifferent to them. If he could choose, he'd prefer a large, calm female dog companion, but he'd be happy as an only dog too. He'll do best with a family who has working dog experience who understands the nature of the breeds. Casper will do best in a rural area, ideally on a farm, or similar place he can be put to work. He has lived with cats, and will play with them if they agree.

Charlie

Male
Age:
7 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Who wants to play with me?
Charlie is happy in his foster home, living the life, playing hard with the other young exuberant pup while he waits for his forever family! Charlie needs an active adopter ready to spend the time to help this young happy love bug get the exercise his brain and body needs. He adores playing hard with other similarly sized pups. He's smart and curious. He's super playful and friendly and walks well on leash. Did we mention he likes to play? He'll be a wonderful addition to a family ready to help him with his basic training, and provide all the love, attention and exercise a young pup needs!

Chase
Gender:
Male
Age:
6 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home
Charming Chase!
Chase is a very handsome fellow, who lived on a farm and was used for breeding. Lucky for Chase, his breeder gave him up after deciding he preferred to breed chocolates. Go figure. Even though his name is Chase, he was not given the opportunity to chase anything because he was kept on a chain in a barn. Despite his confinement and lack of attention, he is the sweetest playful, happy pup. He is a big boy who will need to lose just a bit of weight, getting exercise with his people, chasing butterflies, balls, and frisbees. Chase is so looking forward to his new life and is eagerly waiting to discover what it's like to have a home and be a loving member of a family. He will be an amazing companion!

Sweet and petite!
Cora is the sweetest, nicest, snuggly, little girl you could ever meet. She has such good manners and is working on her leash skills. Cora attended a week-long basic manners class and was a star student. Her trainer reports that she is a joyful, athletic, and energetic young gal. She is very intelligent and quick to learn new behaviors. She has a sweet personality with boundless energy, and can get a bit distracted in new environments. If something runs, she is more than happy to chase it. During the week, this smart, willing girl mastered a ton of new commands and continues to make such good progress. Cora will be a fun, affectionate companion for some lucky family.
Cora and her new family are entitled to a complimentary 7-week Good Manners Class at Peaceable Paws, LLC in Fairplay, MD for being part of the basic manners program!

Dexter
Gender:
Male
Age:
1 year
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
So handsome!
Everyone who has met Dexter say he is the sweetest, goofiest pup. Dexter was with his rescuer for a short time and she could not stop raving about what a good boy he is. He slept in the crate with no issues and did his business outside. He did well with her dog and met her cat and kitten with no issues. He just wanted to check them out and the cats were happy to meet him as well. His tail has not stopped wagging since he was rescued and now he’s ready for his forever home.

Dude
Gender:
Male
Age:
5 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
Sweet choco drop!
Dude is a sweet choco drop. He is settling nicely in his foster home, where he is proving to be one cool, calm, laid back dude! He likes the crate and naps there during the day with a favorite toy. He went happily into the crate when his fosters went out and was resting quietly there when they returned. Stairs are new to him but he is figuring them out with some high-value treats as motivation. Dude is calm on leash and seems satisfied with three 30-minute walks per day in the absence of a fenced yard. He wags his tail at friendly dogs and ignores the rest. He’s truly an all-around good boy. Dude likes to play in the yard or take a dip in a creek (or whatever water!) but he is a pretty mild mannered guy. Don't wait to reach out about this guy!

Duke #2
Gender:
Male
Age:
10 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with limited steps, fence negotiable
A true gentleman!
Handsome, dark chocolate Duke #2 is ready for his forever home! His owner passed away not too long ago, and unfortunately no one could take Duke in. He is having an absolute blast with his fosters, who take him for at least 4 walks a day (and sometimes he cons Foster Mom into taking another walk!). He has lots of energy for all the new, fun things in life. Duke has excellent house manners and is very well behaved. Duke is very cuddly but he also enjoys just lying on his bed while his humans are working. If you are looking for an eager to please, cuddly, sweet pup, Duke’s your guy!
