Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.
-
Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.
-
Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >
-
Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >
-
Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Tank
Gender:
Male
Age:
3 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
Handsome hunk of chocolate!
Tank was an owner surrender to the shelter through no fault on his part. He is a nice boy who has had some training. He is a great rider, good on leash, and house-trained. At 57 pounds, he's a small Tank and as handsome as can be. More on Tank as we get to know him.

Tex
Gender:
Male
Age:
1 year
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home. Physical fence. No e-fence.
Terrific Tex!
Happy Tex is a typical high-energy, strong, young Lab who is learning new things every day. He was a stray to the shelter and needed some help to focus his energy and natural instincts, so Tex has spent some time working with one of our trainers. They can't say enough good things about him! He’s a very smart boy. He'll need an adopter who is ready to keep up with his training, and the strategies his trainers have developed for him. The most important thing to know about Tex is that he loves TUG, and will play it endlessly. He enjoys walks for the sniffs, but it's that engagement with his human during playtime that really satisfies him! Tex would like his humans around more than not. He’s the ideal work-from-home buddy, as he will help you get those stretch breaks in. Tex is a great dog, looking for an adopter who can keep building on all he has learned so far.

The River Puppies
Gender:
Age:
8 weeks
Good with:
Kids 0+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home
Take me to the river!
The River puppies are from a shelter we work with in VA. The rescue pulled mom, Hazel, from the pound and had some suspicions that she might have been “in a family way.” But she really surprised them when she delivered a healthy and robust litter of TEN! What a wonderful surprise and what an excellent mother! They asked us if we could help find new homes for them. Of course, we said yes. The puppies have been vetted and received their first round of vaccines, preventatives, and microchips, and are ready to find their forever families. Please contact your Adoption Coordinator for full information and current availability.
Clockwise the River puppies are:
Shenandoah, female, black
Potomac, male, chocolate
York, male, black
Rappahannock, male, black
Roanoke, male, black
Chickahominy, male, black
Pamunkey, male, black
Appomattox, male, black

Thunder

Male
Age:
1 year
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Big and Beautiful!
Thunder is a sweet boy looking for an active family with whom to continue exploring the world. He has been demonstrating his excitement with zoomies at his foster home. He’s a sweet boy, with lots of energy and young-dog joy who hasn’t yet had much in the way of training. But he's working on that. This fun guy takes treats gently and is eager to please. Foster Mom is working with him on things like keeping all 4 paws on the floor and knowing what things are appropriate to put in his mouth. He likes the beach and car rides and loves being with people. Thunder would love an agility class or basic obedience with his person. He's looking for an active adopter, committed to working on his training so that he can shine! He’s so excited about his future with his loving family!

Tracey
Gender:
Male
Age:
6 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
So handsome!
Tracey has settled into his foster environment very quickly and very well. He is completely housebroken, enjoys the dog bed, and would love to see life up on the couch. He is crate-trained but doesn't require it. He does extremely well with multiple resident dog and the sounds of life in a house. He loves pets and affection from humans and dogs alike. Tracey also loves playing outside and running around. He will need exercise in conjunction with training to reach his full potential, but don't we all? He is a very sweet and beautiful Lab curiously awaiting his final stop in a forever home.

Tuck
Gender:
Male
Age:
10 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats, possibly townhomes
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence and only dog in the home
Great walking buddy!
THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125.
Tuck continues to ace every test that comes his way while in foster care! He recently experienced the joys of a home remodel; and managed it better than most humans. He warmly greeted the folks that came and went. He stayed close to his person when he was unsure what to do. And he even managed to ignore the noise and nap when the time came. Tuck is smart, sweet, and quite fit. He loves going on walks, driving in the car, meeting new people, and spending time with his people. Tuck knows some commands, listens well, communicates very well, and is easy to handle. He has the run of the house and can be left alone without any problems. He loves to sniff, he loves to watch his person, and he loves children. He is an effective communicator, which does mean he'll communicate his needs back to you as well. Overall, he's easy to handle and hopeful to find a home where he can become part of the family, whatever that looks like.

Waylon
Gender:
Male
Age:
1 year
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Super handsome guy!
Waylon is a sweet, handsome boy whose owner sadly found he did not have enough time for him any longer. In the time the Waylon did spend with him, he did start working on his basic commands of sit, stay, and come. Waylon knew how to kennel up when his owner brought him to the car, and he hopped right into the crate. He lived outside in a kennel with an air-controlled house, but he did not spent much time inside the home. Waylon is smart and eager to please, so he will no doubt pick up on things pretty quickly. With a little practice, he's going to be a wonderful companion! More on this friendly boy once he is in a foster home.

Winnie
Gender:
Female
Age:
4 years
Good with:
Kids 10+ Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home. Fence - negotiable
Winsome Winnie!
Gorgeous Winnie is a wonderfully sweet and outgoing girl. She loves people and other dogs. Found as a stray, she can't wait to find her new, forever home. Though a big girl, she is pretty good on leash and also a good car rider. She has great reviews from the kennel and keeps her space clean. More on Winne as we try to find her a foster.

Zeni
Gender:
Male
Age:
6 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical or undergrund fence
Happy dude!
Zeni is a very sweet, happy boy who thinks the best thing that has happened to him lately is coming to Lab Rescue after his owner could no longer care for him. He likes to be with you getting attention and thinks his head should be in your lap getting petted. He likes to retrieve and is very good at it, bringing the toy or ball back so you can toss it again and again. Zeni is an easy dog who will love hanging around with his new family, going on walks, playing in the yard, or exploring the world. He knows his commands and takes treats gently. Zeni is a favorite at the kennel with both the staff and other dogs. He rode nicely on his trip to the vet and was great introducing himself calmly to other dogs when they came over to meet him. Zeni is a great pup, waiting patiently for some very lucky family to come meet him.
