Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.

Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.
-
Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >
-
Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Flounder
Gender:
Mal
Age:
4 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home
A perfect pup!
Flounder is a typical puppy, sweet and friendly, looking for a family who will give him the home he deserves, and is prepared to support him through his surgery recovery in a few months. He is a gentle, affectionate puppy who found himself in the shelter after being surrendered with his littermates. It didn’t take long for staff to notice something was off with his front right leg, and X‑rays revealed a break at the joint. Lab Rescue stepped in to give him the care he deserves. After consulting with a couple of orthopedic surgeons, the recommendation is to wait until Flounder is older and his growth plates have closed before performing corrective surgery. Until then, he’s cleared to enjoy life as a puppy — just without overdoing it. Flounder can romp around the yard and explore, but he shouldn’t be encouraged to fetch or roughhouse with other dogs. Despite his limitations, he’s thriving. Flounder loves people and other dogs and wants to be in their company. He had a great weekend celebrating his foster brother’s birthday with all the excitement that brought to his front door! He had so much fun and loved playing with the kids. He has learned how to do puzzles and is very smart. He is a wonderfully happy dog.

Hazel #3
Gender:
Female
Age:
2 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
Happy Hazel!
Hazel is a very friendly and active pup who likes to be with you and get attention. After being a great mom to her puppies, she is now ready to find her new home, and has been doing great with pups and people alike. In fact, she is so good with other dogs, her people will introduce her first to new dogs! She's a good girl who comes when called and takes her treats gently. She rides well in the car, just settles down and takes a nap, sometimes in the passenger seat and sometimes on the center console. "Do you have any treats for the road?" she asks. At her foster home, she had run of the house and slept on a dog bed in her bedroom or would hop on her bed and sleep with her pups. She is looking for a family that will give her the love, exercise, and training she needs to thrive. She will make your family a wonderful companion.

Needs:
A loving forever home. Fence negotiable
Handsome Hondo!
Cutie Hondo was a sad stray, but now he is so happy to be with Lab Rescue! He is doing great at the vet/kennel, though he can't wait to find his forever people. The staff all love him and say he is well behaved and fairly calm for a youngster. Hondo has pretty nice manners, is food motivated and eager to please. More when he gets to a foster home...unless some lucky adopter scoops him up first! He's a super pup!

Jacey
Gender:
Female
Age:
9 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence and another dog
Happy girl just finding her way!
Sweet, gentle Jacey has really started to come out of her shell. She’s still a bit timid, but she’s such a happy girl. When the mood strikes, she’ll join in playtime; and when she’s done, she’s perfectly content relaxing in her crate or curled up in her bed. She travels beautifully in the car and is truly such an easy, delightful dog to have around. Her favorite thing is playing with her best friend, the resident dog! They love to wrestle and run about in the yard. Jacey is so excited to see her friend every morning. She will need a home with another dog who is just as playful and confident as her newest friend. Although she may never be a super cuddle-bug and will startle if you move too quickly in the house or yard, she is a gentle, kind soul who wants so much to be loved, she's continuing to work on being brave in order get the attention she seems to crave. Jacey is considered hospice due to the malignant growth in her mouth, but someone forgot to tell her. Her zest for life is contagious! Her tail does not stop wagging! Jacey is such a sweet, happy companion who just wants love and gentle pets from her patient people.

Jiggy
Gender:
Female
Age:
6 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Playful pup!
After spending far too much time at the shelter, Jiggy has continued to do well in foster while living with multiple other dogs. She has stolen the heart of her current foster with her playfulness and personality. She understands a few basic commands, and shows a willingness to learn more. She also absolutely loves walks but will need continued help on a leash. Jiggy plays appropriately with other dogs and can live in a multi-dog home, but she does not require a canine companion. This sweet girl will thrive in an active home with adopters who have prior dog experience and feel comfortable managing a confident, vocal player. A fenced yard where she can run and play safely would be highly beneficial. With the right guidance and understanding, Jiggy will be a devoted, fun, and affectionate companion. She's a great dog! Jiggy did well with the training she just completed. She and her new family are entitled to a complimentary 7-week Good Manners Class at Peaceable Paws, LLC in Fairplay, MD for being part of the basic manners program! What a fun way to bond!

Female/Female bonded pair
Age:
10 years/9 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home
Dynamic Mother/Daughter Duo
Jodie and Ginger are a dynamic bonded duo and must be adopted together. This mother (Jodie) and daughter (Ginger) pair came from a breeding farm. It's unknown how many litters they had. Ginger absolutely cannot live without her mom but still tries to push her boundaries like a lot of daughters do to their moms! Ginger will try to be the boss and push Jodie out of the way to get attention and eat some of her food. They both walk nicely on lead. They have never lived in a house and have not been exposed to indoor living so they will need a patient family who will allow them time to adjust. These lovely ladies are super friendly and easy going. They both love hugs! Jodie and Ginger are looking forward to the luxuries of living in a warm, cool, secure home with lots of comfy, squishy beds and reduced-calorie treats after all these years.

Kuma
Gender:
Male
Age:
3 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence and where he is the only dog in the home
Looking for love!
Handsome Kuma is a wonderfully affectionate young guy who loves everyone he meets and greets them with a wagging tail and a hopeful look! He’s incredibly smart, food-motivated, and loves to learn. This fun-loving, energetic young pup needs an active home where his people can keep up with his abundant energy. He would love a fenced back yard to chase squirrels and a porch where he can curl up with his human to watch the world go by. He is inquisitive and attentive, making him a great training partner and companion. Affectionate Kuma will reward you with lots of love and cuddles. Kuma does great with routines. He loves to walk the neighborhood each morning and now that he is familiar with the route and the dogs he encounters along the way, he hardly pulls at all. He sits very nicely and just observes things when asked to. He loves puzzle toys and chasing after balls. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and a big personality, Kuma might just be your perfect match. He wants to be your guy.

Maddie/Prada
Gender:
Female
Age:
11 months
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Pretty pup!
Maddie (FKA Prada) is going to be some adopter’s perfect pup. She is a quirky, sensitive girl who forms a deep bond with her person very quickly. Once you’re “her person,” you’ll have a loyal little shadow who just wants to be near you. She has excellent house manners—she’s crate trained, housebroken, and settles nicely when left alone. No separation anxiety here—just a preference for being close when you’re home. She's more reserved meeting new people, taking her time to warm to them. Having the ability to retreat to her safe space (a cozy crate with something good to chew) helps her relax and accept visitors calmly. With other dogs, Maddie is polite but a bit unsure. She has recently enjoyed some doggy play, but she’s not looking for a high-energy canine companion. If placed with another dog, it should be an easygoing, laid back older dog. Maddie LOVES being outside. She will happily spend hours in a yard, often choosing to rest quietly by the back door or explore at her own pace. A securely fenced yard is going to be very important for her happiness. Maddie is looking for a calm, predictable home with few comings and goings. The noise and activity of children or teenagers would likely be overwhelming for her although she is approved for kids aged 10 and older. A quieter household—whether a single person or a couple—will likely allow her to truly bond and thrive.

A loving forever home
Double the fun!
THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE FOR THE PAIR IS $150.
This delightful, curious, friendly, housebroken, bonded pair of chocolate boys was adopted from Lab Rescue 9 years ago, moved to Florida with their mom, and unfortunately lost their mom in February. After a trip back to Lab Rescue for vetting, they have spent the past month decompressing in their foster home. Morris (Mo), with a touch more frosting on his face, is a bit more outgoing than his brother Max even though he is slightly vision impaired. Max helps him out and they both do fine. They are real homebodies and love being with people. They have a good deal of pep in their step and enjoy a spirited game of bitey-face with each other before they might check out a toy or see if foster mom left any treats out where they can get them. Both dogs love to spend some time on their backs, wiggling with infectious joy. Do you want to continue to teach these adorable old dogs new tricks? If so, this pair will reward you with kisses, delight you with their sweet personalities, and exceed your expectations!!
