Finding Your Perfect Match: Below are brief descriptions of some of our dogs that are available for adoption. Because the list is constantly changing, we recommend that you apply to adopt as soon as you are ready and work with an Adoption Coordinator, who can provide you with more info about dogs that are a good match for you and your lifestyle.
-
Adopting with Children: The safety of children in an adoptive home is one of our greatest priorities. Learn more about our approach to placing dogs in homes where little ones are present.
-
Adopting as a Townhome or Apartment Resident: As many of our dogs come from rural areas—where they have limited exposure to cars, new people and dogs, unexpected noises, and being leashed—we may limit placements for some dogs to single-family homes. Learn more >
-
Adopting & Fences: We require fences for some of our dogs for a range of reasons. Learn more >

Heartworm: About ten percent of our dogs are diagnosed with Heartworm disease during their initial vetting. Heartworm is treatable, and Lab Rescue provides treatment for all infected dogs at no cost to the adopter. Learn more >

Ellie and Maggie
Gender:
Female/Female Bonded Pair
Age:
Both 13 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home, fence negotiable
Our Golden Girls!
This pair will be attending Adopt-A-Lab Day at PetSmart Reston, September 12 (10am-11:30 am), 11860 Spectrum Center, Reston, VA
THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125.
Both Ellie and Maggie are doing great! They are ideal guests and completely house-trained. They let their people know when they want to go out or when it is time for dinner or an evening snack by pacing back and forth to the door or kitchen. If their people do not respond, one of them will give a single, sharp woof, which usually does the trick. Both are excellent eaters and enjoy kibble with a spoonful of canned food or tuna. Maggie and Ellie are incredibly active, alert, and love their walks. They are always ready to go, and a mile walk during the cooler hours is easy for them. Maggie is definitely the leader in the house and will push Ellie out of the way to be first for walks or meals, which Ellie does not seem to mind. Once they finish eating, they always inspect each other's bowls to make sure nothing was left behind. They trade the lead on our walks. Maggie walks at a steady, medium pace with minimal dawdling, while Ellie loves to sniff and walks a bit faster until she gets distracted by a scent. They greet visitors calmly with friendly wags and sniffs, without jumping. Outside, they are happy to meet new people and dogs. Maggie is still terrified of thunder and senses it long before her people can hear it. Yesterday during a storm, she demonstrated that she can do stairs; she ran upstairs for the first time with no problem coming down, and later did it again for another thunder roll. They have distinct personalities and are still sassy and do the "zoomies" from the front room to the TV room once or twice a week. They might not win any agility shows, but they are doing wonderfully for being 13 years old.

Fiona

Female

7 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence
Princess Fiona
Fiona steals hearts wherever she goes. Whether she is out on the town with her people or living the couch potato life, she is always fun to be around. She is incredibly affectionate, loves to spend time with her people, and is always up for fun adventures with you! Don’t let that smattering of powdered sugar on her face fool you. It just an extra bit of sweetness. Fiona’s an active girl who really enjoys playing frisbee or will happily volunteer to walk a few miles with you as soon as she sees you've grabbed your shoes. She is very good on leash when there isn't anything going on. However, she can get very excited when she sees another dog. She has a high prey drive and will chase cats, rabbits, squirrels, etc. Other than that, she’s just about perfect! This super-lovable girl has mastered the art of balancing adventure with professional-level lounging. Like her namesake, Fiona is a beautiful princess searching for her happily everafter. She doesn't need an ogre to break the curse, just a kind soul with room in their heart for a beautiful, loving pup.

Flap Jack is new to Lab Rescue and we're just getting to know him.. His favorite thing is to be with you and get petted he likes butt scritches and scratches. He retrieves balls and toys, bringing them back and dropping them close to you so you get the idea he wants you to toss them again. He likes treats and takes them gently. Grandad (aka as Buck)
Gender:
Male
Age:
10 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home
Gentle senior
THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE IS $125.
Grandad (answers to Buck) is such a sweet, gentle fellow. He doesn’t ask for much; he is happy with a soft couch, two meals per day, a few treats, loving humans, and a yard to meander in. He enjoys a little company from his low-key canine foster siblings, too. He doesn’t need to live with another dog but would like a human companion around most of the time. It’s a bit of a challenge, but he can climb the stairs to sleep in Foster Mom’s room. He stays downstairs the rest of the day, unless she does something that he absolutely must investigate. He sleeps through the night and is the last to wake in the morning. He usually heads straight outside to do his business and wander around the yard for a few minutes before coming back in to eat. Then it’s time for the first of his several naps on the couch. He rides well in the car, using a platform step to get in, but he is not particularly interested in walks. Meandering around the yard is more his speed. Grandad is a low-key gentleman, a good eater who likes fruit, vegetables and especially eggs. He stays close to Foster Mom and enjoys attention and petting but doesn’t really seek it out. Grandad is a lovely and undemanding companion. He is very, very easy to have around.

These 2 are sweet, social and love to play as well as cuddle. Gunther loves running, playing, and splashing around in playgroups. He is quite attached to Sallie Mae and feels the best when they're together. And of course, Sallie Mae loves him too! She is the sweetest girl. Sallie Mae loves human attention, as well. They both do well on leash walks and appear house trained. Now, they just need a forever home to open their hearts to them - these two have a lot of lovin' to give in return!

Jacey

Age:
9 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence and another dog
Happy girl just finding her way!
Sweet, gentle Jacey has really started to come out of her shell. She’s still a bit timid, but she’s such a happy girl. When the mood strikes, she’ll join in playtime; and when she’s done, she’s perfectly content relaxing in her crate or curled up in her bed. She travels beautifully in the car and is truly such an easy, delightful dog to have around. Her favorite thing is playing with her best friend, the resident dog! They love to wrestle and run about in the yard. She will need a home with another dog who is just as playful and confident as her newest friend. Although she may never be a super cuddle-bug and will startle if you move too quickly in the house or yard, she is a gentle, kind soul who wants so much to be loved, she's continuing to work on being brave in order get the attention she seems to crave. Jacey is considered hospice due to the malignant growth in her mouth, but someone forgot to tell her. Her zest for life is contagious! Her tail does not stop wagging!

Jimbo recently arrived at his foster home, and he has been a delight! He's a smart guy who likes to please. He’s very curious, exploring all over the house and yard. This friendly boy is great with the resident labs, very easy going from the moment he met them. He’s already an expert at eating frozen Kong treats, seems fine indoors with the TV and blender noises, and has not barked at all so far. Jimbo is looking for a person or family that will love him and take care of him forever. In return they will get lots of love and laughter from sweet Jimbo.

Dynamic Mother/Daughter Duo
This pair will be attending Adopt-A-Lab Day at PetSmart Reston, September 12 (10am-11:30 am), 11860 Spectrum Center, Reston, VA
Jodie and Ginger are a dynamic bonded duo and must be adopted together. This mother (Jodie) and daughter (Ginger) pair came from a breeding farm. It's unknown how many litters they had. Ginger absolutely cannot live without her mom but still tries to push her boundaries like a lot of daughters do to their moms! Ginger will try to be the boss and push Jodie out of the way to get attention and eat some of her food. They both walk nicely on lead. They have never lived in a house and have not been exposed to indoor living so they will need a patient family who will allow them time to adjust. These lovely ladies are super friendly and easy going. They both love hugs! Jodie and Ginger are looking forward to the luxuries of living in a warm, cool, secure home with lots of comfy, squishy beds and reduced-calorie treats after all these years.

Kash

Male
Age:
7 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home
Cash and carry! Ready for a new home!
Kash will be attending Adopt-A-Lab Day at PetSmart Reston, September 12 (10am-11:30 am), 11860 Spectrum Center, Reston, VA
Kash is right on the money! He’s tall, dark, and handsome. His previous owner is no longer able to physically care for him, so Kash is on the lookout for a new family. This stunning guy has excellent house manners, although he won’t pass up the opportunity to investigate an uncovered trash can. Kash loves to roll in the grass and play with fluffy toys! He loves being outside in the large, fenced yard, even when it rains... until it thunders. Then he comes inside and is fine. He loves baths, especially if it's given outside in a tub! Kash is a smart one! He knows the commands sit, wait, stay, leave it, and comes when his name is called. He is good on leash and enjoys walks, loves car rides and fetching balls and frisbees. This big boy is food motivated, takes treats gently, and loves to give kisses. Kash is ready to have some fun times in his new home with a loving family!

Kobe
Gender:
Male
Age:
3 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs
Needs:
A loving forever home. Fence: negotiable - if exercise needs can be met
Lovable goofball!
Adorable Kobe is a friendly goofball who likes to be on the move. He’ll keep you on your toes - unless he’s sitting on your lap. Kobe loves balls and takes ball security very seriously. He loves fetch and is a pro at it. Car rides? Let’s go! Being brushed? Oh, yes please! A game of tug? Anytime! He's the undefeated champ – in a loving way. He was very good with the dogs he played with at the shelter and has been good with the resident pup. He also met a cat at the shelter and seemed fine. The cat didn’t run, but Kobe also didn’t treat kitty like a stuffy – so he might be ok with a dog-savvy cat. He’ll bark at you to play and then go entertain himself – he just wants to be certain you are watching him so you can tell him ‘good boy’! He’s emotionally independent but would also love a playmate! Kobe is the most enthusiastically, chaotically, whole-heartedly loving, loable dog you will ever meet… or adopt. I know you’re thinking about it!

Kuma
Gender:
Male
Age:
4 years
Good with:
Kids 10+, Dogs, No Cats
Needs:
A loving forever home with a physical fence and only dog in the home
Big-hearted guy!
If you’re looking for a quiet couch potato, keep scrolling. But if you love dogs with big personalities, endless enthusiasm, and a zest for life that’s impossible to ignore, Kuma just might be your perfect match. Kuma is a handsome black Lab with a huge heart and an equally big voice. He wears his emotions on his sleeve—whether he’s excited to see you, ready to play, or hoping you’ll throw one more ball, you’ll always know exactly how he’s feeling. Life with Kuma is never boring. He is completely house- and crate-trained and has lived successfully with other dogs. While he’s not a candidate for dog parks and isn’t the type of dog who wants to greet every canine he sees on leash, he can do very well with the right easygoing female companion after thoughtful introductions. Kuma thrives with people who enjoy interacting with their dog. He loves training, enrichment activities, sniffing adventures, and being involved in whatever you’re doing. If you enjoy living life with your dog instead of simply owning one, Kuma would love to meet you.
