ANNUAL DOGWALK: FAQs
Where is the Walk and how do I get there?
The Walk is being held at the Blue Heron Pavilion at Quiet Waters Park, located in Annapolis, MD.
Once you arrive at the park entrance, just tell the Park Ranger that you're taking part in the Lab Rescue Dog Walk and they'll direct you toward the correct pavilion.
Is there parking available?
Quiet Waters has lots of parking lots available and our sponsor, Friends of Lab Rescue, will be providing a shuttle service throughout the day for you and your dogs so that you can easily get to the registration area and back to your car when you leave.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to loop the entire parking area so just be patient and a bus will appear.
Once in the park, where is the Walk?
We have reserved the Blue Heron pavilion. There are washroom facilities and an open area for our vendors, sponsors and food trucks.
Will I be able to get lunch?
Yes! You can purchase food and drink from one of the several food trucks that will be in attendance. There will also be plenty of drinking water available (for dogs and humans).
How long of a distance is the actual Walk?
While there are more than six miles of wooded trails at Quiet Waters Park, the trail that we use has an easy one mile loop that many choose to take. It's also a nice wide trail that runs through the woods so staying cool should be easy.
For those dogs that might be older and not able to walk as far, you can turn back at any time. In fact, many Labs come for the company and never make it onto the trail.
What time does the Walk & FunFest start and end?
Check-in begins at 10:00 AM and the Walk officially starts at 11:00 AM. Most people take the opportunity between check-in and the Walk to browse the on-site vendors before and after the walk and to grab a bite to eat. The event ends at 2:00 PM.
My dog is not a Lab or was not adopted from Lab Rescue—can they come?
Absolutely! All friendly dogs are welcome.
Can I come without my dog?
What are the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Tests?
Dogs who pass the 10-step Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test can earn a certificate and/or the official AKC CGC title. This title is often a prerequisite for any dog becoming a certified therapy dog. The Advanced CGC test, also known as the AKC Community Canine is the advanced level of the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Program. Dogs who pass the AKC Community Canine test earns the official AKC Community Canine title that is designated by the letters "CGCA" on the dog's title record.
Can I raise money and not attend?
Yes—you can be a ‘virtual walker.’ We’d love to see you at the Walk, but if you’re unable to attend, you can still register online and raise money by sharing your personal fundraising webpage and asking friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor you.
Will I be able to buy a Walk t-shirt at the Walk?
No, we do not offer Walk t-shirts for sale at the Walk. If you raise $75 or more before May 10th, you will be guaranteed your Walk t-shirt, which you will receive when you check in at the registration tent. Fundraisers who raise at least $25 will receive a commemorative Walk frisbee.
I'm traveling to attend the walk from out of town and looking for pet-friendly accommodations in/near Annapolis, MD. Do you have any recommendations?
Yes, there are several pet-friendly accommodations. The following hotels allow big dogs and 2+ pets (some for an additional pet fee):
What should I bring with me to the Walk?
We keep bug spray and sunscreen at the info desk, but we encourage you to bring your own. Quiet Waters Park has dense woods and the bugs can come to visit.
If you are bringing your dog, please also bring a six-foot leash. To avoid tangles, we ask that you not bring a retractable leash.
Quiet Waters Park has a fenced-in Dog Beach that allows your dog to go for a swim before/after the Walk. If you would like to take advantage of this, we suggest bringing your own towels for drying.
The Dog Walk is a rain or shine event so keep your eye on the weather and consider a raincoat or umbrella.
Can I volunteer to help out at the DogWalk & FunFest?
We need lots of help on Walk Day. The biggest need is with setting up and taking down. View the available volunteer spots and register to help out. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any volunteer questions.
